With the arrival of spring, we experienced a severe weather event on April 15th that…
For the most part, July 2018 was a fairly quiet month for club news.
We sponsored the July 2018 Dinner Social at Houma’s finest sports bar and eatery, Walk-Ons Bistreaux on Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. Service was friendly and swift, and the food was top notch for an reasonable price. We had a semi-private room pretty much to ourselves, so the crowd noise of the packed house in no way affected our enjoyment of the evening. A good time was had by all!
The club had several members attend the Slidell Ham Fest on July 21st. The forums, meetings, and vendor tables proved enjoyable and beneficial.
Speaking of beneficial, our club president, WB5PKK, won the grand prize at the event, an Icom, IC-7200. Our thanks go to the Ozone Amateur Radio Club for sponsoring this event.
We will be deciding the fate of the old Onan Diesel Generator at our next General Business Meeting on August 6, 2018 at the Terrebonne Parish Library North Branch. Based on a respected inspection of the electrical side of the unit, much expensive work would be required.
Plus, at the August meeting a presentation is planned on Emergency Communications by Louisiana ARES Region 3 DEC, Miriam Barrett, KG5BNH.
In closing, even though the tropics may be quiet right now, stay prepared. Make sure all your gear is in working order, and have a plan.
