April 2018 Update

Since our last post, we sold all TARC Inventory that was put up for sale, securing revenue for the Thibodaux Amateur Radio Club as well as making room at the Property Manager’s QTH.

Our thanks go to Jason, KG5VHT, and Clarence, KC5FTL, for their participation in this endeavor.

Our next inventory objective is to facilitate evaluation of the “electric” side of the 5KW Onan Generator by a qualified technician before any revenue is invested in repairing the diesel engine.

Be sure to participate in donating on May 1, 2018 at the website GiveNOLA.org, a 24 hour online fundraiser sponsored by GNOF and BayouCommunityFoundation.

We have been experiencing an outage of our primary club repeater, 147.390+ (tone 114.8) in Gray, LA for the past two weeks due to an air conditioner outage, the repair of which has been out of our control. This outage is scheduled to be rectified on Monday, April 24, 2018, with the warranty installation of a new Crosley 220 volt unit at the site at approximately noon. In the meantime, we have been using the secondary repeater, 147.300+ (tone 144.8) repeater in Theriot, LA, and will provide sufficient notice via email, Facebook, and Twitter when the Gray repeater is back online.

Our April Dinner Social was held at Olive Garden Restaurant in Houma, LA, with a substantial participation of 18 people. We had good food and enjoyed like minded fellowship which made for a great social event. Next month we will enjoy fine Thai and Asian food at Song Phi Nong Restaurant in Houma, LA on May 21st.

We are planning a TARC/BRARS Board of Directors meeting on May 12, 2018 at 2:00PM at the Terrebonne Parish Library North Branch in Gray, LA.

Soon to come is our new W5YL.org website that is very similar to the existing website, but with some new information and a whole new look. We will send an email when this new site has been published.
